Atlantic House Investments offers London Pulse Netballer Sigi Burger an internship

AHI lead sponsor of Burger’s team – London Pulse

Atlantic House Investments (AHI), the market-leading provider of defined return investments has offered a year-long internship to Sigi Burger – a South African International netballer who plays for London’s only Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) team, London Pulse.

As a principal partner for London Pulse, AHI is sponsoring its VNSL and pathway Squads (U21 and U19) in addition to being a high-profile home match day sponsor at London Pulse’s iconic venue, the Copper Box Arena located in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

As part of the partnership, AHI and London Pulse discussed various initiatives which would increase the range of opportunities for its athletes. As the deal was being finalised, it became apparent that Sigi, who has a BCom degree in Economics and International Trade, is not just a world class shooter. Following a rigorous round of interviews, Sigi impressed the AHI team and it became clear that she was the ideal candidate to develop her finance and business skills further on a paid internship, Sigi was subsequently offered the role.

Tony Stenning, CEO at AHI commented; “Atlantic House Investments is always looking for innovative solutions and when the chance to partner with London Pulse came up we immediately saw an opportunity to both increase the awareness of investment through their fan base and community work, and perhaps more importantly begin redressing the lack of diversity and gender equality in the City.

So, working with the coaching team at London Pulse, we have started to offer internships and financial education to their squad. While the City might not seem to be an obvious career choice for a semi-professional netball player, elite sportswomen, particularly those used to competing as part of a team, bring a wealth of transferable skills which are very relevant to many roles within the financial services sector.

Sigi is our first London Pulse intern and her enthusiasm, innovative mind-set and dynamism has already made a big impression. She has fitted seamlessly into the firm. We are delighted to be supporting Sigi’s career development (both off and on the court) as well as continue to offer other London Pulse athletes work experience, internships and mentoring to support them in achieving their long-term sporting and professional goals.”

Sigi Burger, Intern Analyst at AHI added; “I am delighted to join AHI, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop my professional career whilst still training hard and playing netball for London Pulse VNSL. I am really enjoying the challenge of learning new skills and building on the strong work ethic, leadership and team skills that I have achieved throughout my sporting journey.”

Sam Bird, CEO and Director of Netball concluded; “Sigi and I had a series of talks during lockdown about her personal development. It became clear to me that Sigi needed to be stimulated in a work setting as well as a netball setting. We want to be able to provide personal development for our players at London Pulse as well as netball development. When I was discussing the partnership with Tony, I was able to recommend Sigi as a possible intern. Athletes often display great skills for business in that they work hard, are team players, take instructions and are often driven to give their best.

“Tony and his team put Sigi through a rigorous series of tests for the role and she was successful. We are delighted for Sigi and it’s great to have an employer who understands the flexibility Sigi needs to work and train as an elite athlete.”
